Civic Intelligence Platform Building Civic Freedom

Uwazi.ai is a Kansas City-based, nonpartisan civic intelligence platform founded in 2020 by Mychal Shaw. What started as 15-minute Zoom calls to help voters understand their ballots during COVID has grown into a national platform that tracks legislation, voting records, and civic data in real time, translating government jargon into plain language for everyone.

What They Do

Uwazi.ai's platform is built on three pillars: Civic Intelligence, which tracks bills, voting records, and real-time alerts translated into plain language; Community Data, which meets people where they are through SMS, RCS messaging, and civic events; and Advisory Services, which help governments, nonprofits, and civic institutions bridge the gap between policy and the people it affects.

Why It Matters

Nearly half of eligible voters sat out the 2022 midterms, and 83% of Americans have never read a city council vote result. Uwazi.ai exists to close that gap, giving every American, especially those the system has overlooked, a trusted, nonpartisan space to learn, engage, and vote with confidence.

Uwazi.ai proudly supports the Kansas City AI Club and community. The Club is grateful to have them as a sponsor. Their support helps us host events, workshops, and discussions that drive the KC AI community forward.
