• Uwazi.ai is a Kansas City-based, nonpartisan civic intelligence platform founded in 2020 by Mychal Shaw. What started as 15-minute Zoom calls to help voters understand their ballots during COVID has grown into a national platform that tracks legislation, voting records, and civic data in real time, translating government jargon into plain language for everyone.
• What They Do:
• Uwazi.ai's platform is built on three pillars: Civic Intelligence, which tracks bills, voting records, and real-time alerts translated into plain language; Community Data, which meets people where they are through SMS, RCS messaging, and civic events; and Advisory Services, which help governments, nonprofits, and civic institutions bridge the gap between policy and the people it affects.
• Why It Matters:
• Nearly half of eligible voters sat out the 2022 midterms, and 83% of Americans have never read a city council vote result. Uwazi.ai exists to close that gap, giving every American, especially those the system has overlooked, a trusted, nonpartisan space to learn, engage, and vote with confidence.
